World-Class Production Processes

These bio-degradable sunglasses feature frames that have been die-cut from acetate sheets using a CNC machine. First, the machine cuts a general shape from the raw acetate sheet. Subsequently, the frame front is refined, and any necessary details are added, such as grooves to hold the lenses.


Each frame is then polished for 4-5 days in roller drums filled with diamond-shaped woodblocks, fine sand, polishing powder, and a little grease. This polishing method removes any scratches or imperfections on the surface of the frame and gives it a lustrous shine.


This is not the only time these glasses are polished. We take great care to ensure that each pair of sunglasses is polished to perfection at various stages throughout the manufacturing process. Other polishing equipment and materials we use include cotton wheels, wool wheels, white wax, purple wax, and yellow wax during the polishing process. 


Each pair of sunglasses is also polished by hand to meet our high standards. This ensures that every pair of sunglasses is perfect when you receive your shipment.


With this particular pair of sunglasses, the temples are unique in that they combine two acetate colors. To achieve this, the temples are first stamped out from tortoiseshell acetate using a blanking machine. At the same time, a central piece is cut out to make room for the green acetate, which is cut separately via CNC.


After the two pieces are cut, they are placed in a jig that holds them in the correct position. The jig is then placed in a heating machine that melts the green acetate onto the tortoiseshell piece. This process is called welding, and it ensures that the two pieces are securely bonded together.


1Subsequently, the temples must be engraved so the metal core can be fitted into them. This is done using an engraving machine that makes a groove in the acetate that is the exact width of the metal core. It is essential that the engraving is done correctly because even a 0.2 mm difference would make the frames useless.
